5 REASONS WHY SOFIA CITY SHOULD BE YOUR NEXT BUSINESS AND LEISURE TRIP DESTINATION
Sofia city is the capital and largest city of Bulgaria. Based on Wikipedia stats, the city is told to have a population of 1.26 million, while over 1.5 million people live in its functional urban area. However, locals say that the city has more than 2 million people population.
The city is located at the foot of Vitosha Mountain in the western part of the country, within less than 50 kilometres (31 mi) drive from the Serbian border.
Here are my 5 reasons why Sofia city should be your next business and leisure trip destination:
The only European Union capital which is next to a mountain(Vitosha mountain which offers various leisure activities all year round) and it doesn't have a river passing through the city. Its location in the center of the Balkan peninsula means that it is the midway between the Black Sea and the Adriatic Sea, whereas the Aegean Sea is the closest to it. Sofia has been an area of human habitation since at least 7000 BC. Sofia is a hometown of many of the major local universities, cultural institutions and commercial companies.
Based on a recent article in Forbes magazine which appeared at the end of 2015, Sofia is considered as one of the top 10 best places for start-up business in the world, especially in IT technologies. With its low corporate taxes of only 10% and a company registration fee of only $200(for foreigners), Sofia city is a great place to start your next business adventure.
USA Today ranked Sofia city as the Europe's most affordable capital to visit for 2013.
In one of my previous LinkedIn Pulse articles "A Renaissance in Eastern Europe?", I mentioned that Eastern Europeans are highly educated people. Almost all the population in Sofia city has at least a bachelor level degree. This exceeds almost any other region in the world. Historically, higher education has long been highly developed and has set high standards and expectations for its students. This has obvious advantages for anyone looking to base their business in Bulgaria.
World class computer programmers - this is acknowledged by economists as the biggest strength that the region possesses. It has rapidly become a rival to India in outsourced IT functions. What makes this feature of the region more impressive and sets it apart from elsewhere, is the level of expertise that Bulgarians posses in IT and programming. This gives the region a specialty in one of the most important industries in the 21st century.
